Hyper-Local Materials as a More Sustainable Alternative to Water-Based Acrylic Paints
This thesis concludes that transitioning from petroleum-based acrylic paints to pigments and paints made from renewable, locally sourced materials like plants and food waste is a viable and impactful solution to address environmental, social, and health challenges in the art industry. By introducing the "Farm to Canvas™" concept, it demonstrates how integrating art and agriculture can create a hyper-localized, sustainable production model that reduces reliance on harmful industrial systems. The proposed Sustainable Innovation School serves as a hub for education, material innovation, and community collaboration, equipping artists with the tools and knowledge to adopt sustainable practices and lead systemic change. This work is significant because it not only reimagines the art supply chain but also empowers artists to become agents of environmental and social transformation, fostering a shift toward a more regenerative and equitable creative economy.
